SUDAN: Misna; E’ salito a 58 decessi e circa mille contagi il bilancio delle vittime di dissenteria acuta legata alle peggiori inondazioni mai registrate prima nel paese.

Le cifre sono comunicate dall’Organizzazione mondiale per la Sanità (Oms), che lavora in Sudan insieme al ministero della Sanità per tentare di arginare l’epidemia. Secondo le autorità sanitarie dello Stato di Gedaref, nell’est del paese, la maggior parte di malati sono colpiti dal colera, che si diffonde rapidamente in caso di alluvioni, in particolare in ambienti poco igienici.

Il ministero centrale della Sanità non usa il termine colera e parla invece di "diarrea acuta acquosa". Le inondazioni delle ultime settimane, dovute ad intense piogge, hanno inoltre causato la morte di 122 persone. [CC]
