BAGHDAD: BOMB BLAST IN PET MARKET

IRAQ: ON LADYSILVIA: Not even two months since the December 1 bomb attack, another explosion ripped through the crowded pet market in Ghazil, in the central Bab Al-Sharji commercial district of Baghdad, also in this occasion an hour before the traffic block to protect the faithful during Friday prayer. In the December attack three people were killed, while today the victims are at least 15 and wounded 35.

The Ghazil market is popular for its stalls selling migrating birds, canaries, sparrows, carrier pigeons, as well as reptiles, spiders and poisonous insects.

Markets in the capital are often targeted by bomb attacks. Meanwhile, the bodies of six people with gunshot wounds were found this morning in the central Allaoui neighbourhood of the capital, on the western banks of the Tigris, near Haifa street where the Iraqi and US forces launched an offensive against insurgents on Wednesday. More than 150 people were killed this week in Baghdad: just yesterday 34 people were killed and around a hundred wounded, while the Parliament was approving the bew security plan proposed by Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki.
