SOMALIA/MISNA on Ladysilvia: At least three people were killed and ten wounded in a series of attacks that took place last night in Mogadishu said local sources to MISNA. They noted that at least two civilians were killed and three wounded near the village of Al-Baraka, in the Hodan quarter of Mogadishu, after a house was struck by mortar fire. One of the victims is believed to be a child.
In another incident, which took place near the main port, some mortar shells caused at least four people to be wounded, two of whom were said to be in very serious condition. In this case as well, based on early reports, the mortars hit a civilian residence.
In the capital’s northern area, owever, at least three people were wounded and one was killed after a rocket attack against the Lafa-weyn hotel.
According to some witnesses, unknown armed men with RPG’s are said to have fired four shots against the building, engaging after in an intense gunfight with the guards placed outside the Hotel. Some of the hotel’s guests include members of the transition government. [AB]
