Triennale Milano's Centennial Celebrations: A Sweet Symphony of Art, Design, and Performance

Triennale Milano celebrates its 100th anniversary with a series of events and exhibitions throughout May. The institution was founded in 1923 with the inauguration of the Biennale delle arti decorative, which became an International Exhibition with a triennial frequency in 1930, and moved to Milan in 1933. The centenary celebration began with the opening of the Museo del Design Italiano on April 15. Triennale Milano President Stefano Boeri stated that "in one hundred years of history, Triennale Milano has questioned great socio-cultural changes and has been a forum where visionary ideas from designers, architects, artists, and thinkers from around the world have found an open and free space for dialogue."

The centenary celebration continues with Romeo Castellucci's performative installation "Senza Titolo," which transforms the Salone d'Onore into an immaculate limbo and features performers engaging in a primordial rite from May 2-7. On May 11, Triennale 100 Sweet Years, an event open to the entire city, inaugurates the Triennale Estate, a series of talks, concerts, and performances that will take place in the Giardino di Triennale from May to September.

FromMay 12 to September 10, the exhibition "Home Sweet Home," curated by Nina Bassoli, explores the transformations of the home and the evolution of the idea of living through works dedicated to this theme in a century of Triennale International Exhibitions. The exhibition features ten site-specific total environments created by contemporary designers, such as Assemble Studio, Céline Baumann, Matilde Cassani, the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA), Diller Scofidio + Renfro, DOGMA, Maria Giuseppina Grasso Cannizzo, Lacaton & Vassal, MAIO, and Sex and the City.

The celebration continues with a conference on May 19 at Villa Reale in Monza, the birthplace of the Biennale delle arti decorative and the site of the inauguration of the ISIA - Istituto Superiore per le Industrie Artistiche, which took place during the first edition of the Biennale delle arti decorative.

The centenary celebration will continue with a contemporary Italian painting exhibition curated by Damiano Gullì from October 2023 to January 2024.
