Tokio, Giappone, condannato a morte l’autore della strage nel metro. Nell’attentato, avvenuto nel 1995, con il gas sarin, rimasero uccise 12 persone e alcune migliaia intossicate.
Shoko Asahara, il leader della setta giapponese dell’Aum Shinrikyo, è stato condannato a morte per impiccagione dopo essere stato giudicato colpevole di aver organizzato l’attacco alla metropolitana di Tokyo con il gas sarin, nel 1995. Un attentato, quello portato a termine in piena ora di punta, in cui erano rimaste uccise 12 persone e alcune migliaia intossicate. Insieme a lui, anche altri undici membri della setta sono stati condannati alla pena capitale.
Shoko Asahara, il cui vero nome è Chizuo Matsumoto, è stato giudicato colpevole di un altro attentato al sarin, nella prefettura di Nagano eseguito l’anno precedente a quello della metropolitana di Tokyo, in cui rimasero uccise sette persone, oltre che del’assassinio di diversi esponenti della setta e dei loro familiari. Durante il processo, che si è prolungato per otto anni, Asahara non ha mai voluto parlare e spiegare le ragioni delle sue azioni.
